# Enceladus Within: grant and placement research

Checked September 30, 2026. Official sources are linked beside the findings. Recommendations and unresolved questions are labelled separately from published rules.

## Deadline: act today; exact close time unverified

The [official Love Burn 2027 ticket page](https://tickets.theloveburn.com/2027) lists an art early-bird deadline of July 31 and **theme camp and art final submissions closing September 30**. The [theme camp page](https://theloveburn.com/themecamp2026/) specifies September 30, 2026. Neither establishes a clock time or timezone for the art grant. Treat the deadline as date-only. Do not create a countdown or label 11:59 p.m. Eastern as the official or guaranteed cutoff.

The official entry point [theloveburn.com/art](https://theloveburn.com/art) currently redirects to the [2027 art proposals page](https://theloveburn.com/artproposals), which links to the [Airtable application](https://airtable.com/appZEXWPCFtaKm6NA/pag1ytRqyhwaXdZTE/form). Public text extraction could not retrieve its fields. No application has been submitted, and the actual live form's deadline text and required fields remain unverified. The event dates are February 11–14, 2027. Earlier 2026 labels in the supplied concept images are historical.

The [art submissions page](https://theloveburn.com/artsubmissions) accepts placement and/or grant requests. Its special notice makes the boundary explicit: **grant amount, size, placement and approval are not valid until an application is reviewed and the Art Committee sends its official Offer Notice email.** Organizer conversations do not replace that process. **Andrew should submit a bounded, truthful proposal today if pursuing this cycle; Codex has not contacted anyone or made an application.**

Andrew supplied additional research reporting date-only wording in both live forms, official social posts and other public sources. It reports the art form's main submission date as September 30, 2026, with encouragement to submit earlier. This is supplied research, not a record of Codex operating those forms or independently inspecting every social source. No linked primary evidence for the reported 2024 midnight graphic was supplied. Even a verified prior-year midnight deadline would not establish the 2027 hour. Claims about regional-burn defaults or Airtable's automatic closing behavior are not used to infer one.

The supplied 11:59 p.m. Eastern fallback is an unverified planning assumption,
not a safe-to-wait submission time. No rendering cutoff, countdown or automatic
lockout is needed for this project; none is added. A prior-year midnight graphic
cannot establish this year's close, and the research does not claim to prove
that no unpublished or unindexed hour exists anywhere.

## Award counts and the Burning Man comparison

Two official Love Burn pages currently disagree about 2026:

| Official page | Proposals | Projects granted |
| --- | ---: | ---: |
| [Art submissions](https://theloveburn.com/artsubmissions) | 326+ | 226+ |
| [Financial disclosure](https://theloveburn.com/fulldisclosure) | 365+ | 235+ |

These support describing a substantial art program. The plus signs, conflicting
totals and unspecified award mix do not support a precise acceptance percentage,
an estimate of Enceladus's odds, or a like-for-like selectivity comparison with
Burning Man Honoraria. No Love Burn cash-tier schedule was found on the reviewed
pages; project counts do not reveal individual cash awards.

Love Burn currently exposes one placement/grant application entry point. By
contrast, [Burning Man Honoraria](https://burningman.org/black-rock-city/bring-your-art/art-grants-programs/brc-honoraria/)
requires an LOI, followed by a full proposal only for selected applicants. The
[2027 Love Burn ticket page](https://tickets.theloveburn.com/2027) states that
Love Burn has not been affiliated with Burning Man Project since 2024. Treat
the two programs, application processes and award conditions separately.

## Application and acceptance preparation

The official [artist-interview page](https://theloveburn.com/artistinterview) describes three considerations: participant interaction, an active team and innovative inspiration. Prepare a specific visitor experience, confirmed crew commitments and the reason the artwork matters. These published considerations do not establish the live application's exact questions or limits.

Prepare concept art clearly labelled as such; measured dimensions and footprint; power and lighting; build/transport/installation/removal plans; accessibility and participant consent; responsible crew and staffing; safety and Leave No Trace plans; requested cash, confirmed self-funding and a quote-supported budget. These are preparation recommendations until the live form is checked. The website must distinguish the 2027 application cycle from historical 2026 artwork captions.

The official [2026 acceptance page](https://theloveburn.com/2026acceptance) assigns artists responsibility for design, transport, installation, daily upkeep and removal; it mentions insurance/permits and returning tickets or repaying grants when a proposal cannot be fulfilled. Its body still names the 2026 event and theme, despite the common site header showing 2027. Use it to identify questions for review, not as a confirmed 2027 agreement. Obtain the actual offer and current acceptance terms before Andrew makes any attestation.

Artist tickets and theme-camp Directed Ticket Codes are separate allocations.
The current [ticket questions page](https://theloveburn.com/ticketquestions)
says artist tickets depend on approved proposals and may arrive as late as
October. Its 2027 section plans equal artist/general/theme-camp ticket pricing
and encourages early purchase, with late OMG pricing subject to change. A DTC
is a theme-camp ticket code, not an art grant. A ticket purchase is not a project
award. Do not count requested tickets as secured resources or infer that an
artist-code allocation is guaranteed. Codex has bought no tickets.

The [heavy-equipment page](https://theloveburn.com/heavyequipment) invites a separate request, currently labels its form as coming soon and says a request does not guarantee access. Its [financial disclosure page](https://theloveburn.com/fulldisclosure) lists propane, power, heavy equipment, transport, food, tools, tickets and labor as support alongside grants. None is a commitment to Enceladus. Request the specific machine, operator, lift/reach requirements, schedule, power and site access conditions; carry an independently deliverable fallback until support is offered in writing. Keep requested cash, confirmed cash and each requested/confirmed in-kind item separate. Do not deduct hoped-for organizer support from the funding gap.

## Beach logistics and dated pages

The [ticket questions page](https://theloveburn.com/ticketquestions) calls for
advance art registration, labeled outdoor cords and self-sufficient RVs without
hookups or event power. General device-charging guidance does not allocate a
circuit to four projectors. Request voltage, total continuous/peak load,
connection type, distance, supply hours and an outage fallback for the artwork.
Circuit capacity and placement remain unconfirmed; do not infer them from a
general promise of shared power.

The [survival guide](https://theloveburn.com/survivalguide) warns of frequent wind
and includes substantial tent stakes and outdoor-rated cords in its packing
guidance. That is not an engineering specification for the sphere or permission
to drive anchors anywhere in the park. Confirm ground restrictions and the
support design for the actual site. Retain full removal and Leave No Trace in
the installation budget and operating plan.

The [gate-hours page](https://theloveburn.com/gatehours) still contains a 2023
schedule. The [2027 ticket page](https://tickets.theloveburn.com/2027) requires
pre-approval for early arrivals and late departures. The ticket FAQ also has
builder-specific information alongside older transfer sections. Use the current
offer/placement instructions to obtain the crew's exact access window; do not
book installation logistics from an old page's date or its updated site header.

## Funded precedents and useful lessons

Expanded research is now in the [grant guides and precedents library](https://thatsnozorb.muchadoaboutoneside.com/grants/):
six confirmed funded works, two close sphere comparisons with different funding
stories, and official application/writing guides. The [proposal workshop](strong-art-grant-guide.md)
translates the references into a project-specific preparation exercise.

These are confirmed 2025 Burning Man Honoraria recipients, listed in the [official award announcement](https://journal.burningman.org/2025/03/burning-man-arts/brc-art/introducing-brc-2025-honoraria-art/). Their selection does not establish how much each received or why a committee selected it.

| Funded work | Published description | Inference for Enceladus Within |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Moonlight Library — The Moonlight Collective | A ruined cosmic library connecting personal stories and shared knowledge. | Give the technical spectacle a simple human story and a reason people gather. |
| ORBs — David Oliver | Three luminous stained-glass globes on sculptural plant bodies. | A sphere can communicate through light and form without carrying a person. |
| Pillar of Po Tolo — Antwane Lee and The Solar Shrine Collective | An interactive astronomy-inspired sculpture with portals and podiums. | Make the science visible through participation, not a diagram alone. |

Descriptions: [official 2025 installation archive](https://history.burningman.org/brc-history/event-archives/2025-event-archive/2025-art-installations/). These are analogies, not engineering precedents for the truck or occupied sphere.

[Burning Man's Honoraria guidance](https://burningman.org/black-rock-city/bring-your-art/art-grants-programs/brc-honoraria/) prioritizes a complete proposal, visual appeal, interactivity, impact and sustainability. It recommends partial funding and tiered scope; ordinary awards rarely exceed $20,000. It excludes mutant vehicles and performance-only work. Its 2027 LOI dates are October 1–29, 2026. These are a separate program's rules, not Love Burn rules. Burning Man also offers ground anchors to artists, with attachment hardware supplied by the artist; no corresponding Love Burn commitment was found.

Love Burn's [2027 theme statement](https://www.theloveburn.com/) emphasizes live performance and human creativity. Recommendation: explain how a person's movement changes the artwork, how observers participate, and what the artwork offers when a performer is absent. Disclose AI concept imagery and distinguish procedural art from actual NASA imagery. The current v3 package supplies an unoccupied optical-development scope, not a finished live reconstruction system.

## Water: four separate questions

1. **Site and permission.** Ask Love Burn Art/Placement whether it will consider an unoccupied spherical installation at the waterline, over water, or only on dry land; obtain the exact footprint, truck setback, access route and exclusion area. Ask which approvals the event already covers and which the artist must obtain. No public source located grants a blanket right to install art in the water.
2. **Jurisdiction.** The [City of Miami special-event process](https://www.miami.gov/Permits-Construction/Filming-and-Events/Get-a-Special-Event-Permit) identifies building-permit review for additional structures. Florida DEP separately provides [ERP and submerged-land authorization processes](https://floridadep.gov/water/submerged-lands-environmental-resources-coordination/content/environmental-resource-permitting) and [forms for activities in, on or over surface waters](https://floridadep.gov/water/submerged-lands-environmental-resources-coordination/content/forms-environmental-resource). Applicability depends on the actual design and location; this research does not determine that any specific permit is required or exempt. Route that determination through the event producer and authorities before installing anything.
3. **Environment and operation.** A specialist-defined plan must cover tide, storm surge, waves, sand bearing, wind, corrosion, electrical isolation, recovery, weather shutdown and debris containment. [NOAA Virginia Key station 8723214](https://www.tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/stationhome.html?id=8723214) is a reference for water levels and predictions, not a survey or future-event forecast. [NWS lightning guidance](https://www.weather.gov/safety/lightning-tips) calls for leaving water and remaining in shelter at least 30 minutes after the last thunder. Exact operational limits must come from the responsible design reviewers.
4. **Water supply.** If “water” also means fresh water for effects or cleaning, document volume, source, storage, containment and disposal separately. The [Love Burn survival guide](https://theloveburn.com/survivalguide) recommends one gallon of drinking water per person per day. That is personal hydration guidance, not an approved water-effects supply or discharge policy. Saltwater projection imagery needs no physical spray system; removing real spray would reduce electrical and wastewater complications.

The [CPSC water-walking-ball warning](https://www.cpsc.gov/Newsroom/News-Releases/2011/Consumer-Alert-CPSC-Warns-of-Deadly-Danger-with-Water-Walking-Balls) addresses suffocation, drowning and inaccessible exit in sealed consumer balls. It directly concerns the enclosed-ball idea in the historical images. The current v3 release accordingly uses unoccupied development. Changing rigging strength does not resolve enclosure hazards.

## Truck and other anchors

**Truck:** retain the two v3 alternatives separately: A uses the rear receiver and proposed Andersen interface; B uses engineered chassis attachment zones and bypasses that ball. [Andersen's installation manual](https://help.andersenhitches.com/s/3200-Ultimate-RM-Installation-10-2018-Low-Res.pdf) describes a specific towing hitch, not approval of Andrew's unidentified installed model as a lifting anchor. Towing ratings cannot be converted into an occupied crane rating. The v3 illustrative statics show forward-anchor uplift: reversing load direction is a real design issue, not resolved by using two hitches. Record exact truck/hitch/receiver identities, measured axle loads, attachment geometry and ground conditions for the engineer and manufacturer.

**Shared Love Burn anchors:** no source located promises event-provided anchors or permits attachment to another installation, tree, park fitting, fence or vehicle. Ask placement for an approved anchor drawing, owner, allowable directions and loads, installation/removal responsibility and permission to share it. Each owner and the engineer must accept combined and common-mode loads. “It is already there” provides neither permission nor capacity.

**Fallback recommendation:** keep a dry-land, unoccupied optical exhibit available if water placement or truck interfaces are refused. Compare an independent rated support system, engineer-designed ballast, and engineered vehicle support before choosing one. No ballast size, anchor force, wind limit or member size is specified here. The desired performer-in-sphere artwork remains a separate future scope, with its own specialist enclosure, support, rescue and approval work.

If the truck would move among attendees, the current [Love Burn DMV page](https://theloveburn.com/dmv) lists applications from October 2026 to January 11, 2027 and requires pre-registration and onsite inspection. The longer [DMV guide](https://theloveburn.com/dmvguide/) currently has a 2025-labelled body; its lighting/driving details are prior guidance pending the current guide. A stationary structural-support truck needs a separate placement/access determination. Art acceptance does not automatically authorize driving or human suspension.

## Questions ready for Andrew to send

No messages have been sent. These questions can be used in the art application or an authorized organizer inquiry:

1. What is the exact September 30, 2026 art-grant closing time and timezone, and is the displayed 2027 Airtable form the final grant/placement form?
2. Can Enceladus Within apply for an unoccupied optical exhibit while occupied operation remains a later, separately approved scope? Is a shoreline or over-water footprint eligible, and what dry-land alternative is acceptable?
3. Is a stationary truck-supported installation allowed at that location? What access, setback, engineering, electrical, insurance and authority documents are required, and is separate DMV registration needed?
4. Does Love Burn provide or approve reusable anchors or ballast? What exact connection points, owner permissions and documented capacities may be considered?
5. Which costs may be requested in cash, which assistance or tickets are offered, and what milestone/payment/placement conditions govern an award?
