# Enceladus Within — Love Burn 2027 working proposal

Superseded for the 2027 form by the [application packet](grant-application-packet.md)
and its [resource ledger](grant-resource-ledger.md), which size the ask from
Love Burn's published grant averages and describe the low-cost hung build.
This earlier draft remains the record of the original scope options.

Draft for Andrew to review. Not submitted. The live form's field list and character limits have not been verified, so these are reusable answers rather than a claim of form completion.

## Application and offer status

Apply for placement and/or a grant at [theloveburn.com/art](https://theloveburn.com/art),
which redirects to the current Airtable entry point. Love Burn's
[official notice](https://theloveburn.com/artsubmissions) requires application,
review and an Art Committee Offer Notice email before grant amount, size,
placement or approval is valid. No such offer is recorded for this project.

The published final submission date is September 30, 2026. The hour and timezone
remain unverified. No 11:59 p.m. cutoff or assumed midnight grace period controls
this draft. Concept images retain explicit concept-art labels.

## The artwork

Enceladus Within connects the ocean around us, the ocean within a human body, and the hidden ocean of Saturn's moon Enceladus. A spherical image moves between a human presence, fractured ice, an imagined subsurface ocean and luminous plumes. Motion changes the transitions so the audience sees a world responding to people rather than a fixed film.

The long-term vision places a performer inside a purpose-designed sphere. The supplied revision 3 develops the optical system and two possible truck interfaces without an occupant. This application should promise only the exhibition scope that the artist can deliver and the event accepts.

## Proposed bounded scope

Recommendation for Andrew's decision: an unoccupied spherical optical installation with an external consenting performer or participant input, subject to a successful projection bench and site approval. Explain whether it is a bench-development grant or a deliverable event exhibit; the current P0 budget is not automatically a complete public exhibition budget. Public interaction, accessible viewing, day/night behavior and crew coverage still need explicit designs.

The desired later occupied and waterborne version is a separate design objective. No public promise of human suspension, sealed-ball occupancy, wave operation or complete live spherical capture is made. The four-projector illustrative model covers 85.58% of an ideal opaque sphere; transparency, shadows and actual lenses remain untested.

## Why Love Burn

The proposed transition between a person and an ocean moon can support the 2027 Showtime! theme through live presence. A dry-land, externally performed version could let visitors see their own motion influence the moon imagery. This interaction is proposed, not demonstrated hardware. Maintain a calm moon sequence if live input is missing, and design an attractive experience when no performer is present.

## Budget evidence

These are the delivered v3 planning allowances, including 25% contingency, verified against the seven-sheet workbook and accompanying budget summary:

| Scope | Low | High | Limitation |
| --- | ---: | ---: | --- |
| P0 optical/feasibility bench | $1,875 | $5,750 | Development bench; public exhibition costs must be added if applicable. |
| P1 unoccupied truck/optics prototype | $39,000 | $105,750 | Not an occupied or permitted beach installation. |
| P0 + P1 | $40,875 | $111,500 | Combined development scope, not the final artistic realization. |
| Occupied installation | Not priced | Not priced | Performer enclosure, recovery and other unknown scopes remain excluded. |

Andrew must select the proposed scope and grant request after confirming Love Burn's eligible costs and award structure. No requested amount, matching funds, donated equipment, staff commitment or quotation has been invented. The obsolete $21,800–$50,000 and $50,000–$94,000 ranges printed in concept boards do not control this budget.

The [simpler installation comparison](https://thatsnozorb.muchadoaboutoneside.com/pricing/)
provides eight alternatives, including a dry-land hemisphere, ground cradle and
fixed truck-bed display. Those are optional exhibition scopes, not eight
promised deliverables. Andrew selects one primary scope and an explicitly
described fallback before submission; the request amount remains undecided.

| Resource | Requested / planned | Confirmed for this project |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Cash grant | Amount not selected | No official offer recorded |
| Artist / builder tickets | Crew count and allocation not selected | No allocation recorded |
| Power | Load and supply specification to prepare | No circuit or service window recorded |
| Equipment / operator / labor | Scope and timing to prepare | No allocation recorded |
| Artist contribution / donated equipment | Identify and value actual commitments | No contribution asserted by this draft |

Organizer in-kind support can reduce cash needed only when its scope and timing
are confirmed and the corresponding budget line is reconciled. Preserve a
costed fallback for unavailable power, equipment or labor. Ticket purchase,
an application receipt and a theme-camp DTC are not proof of an art award.

## Deliverables and gates

Existing: a 16-page design review; editable budget; two CAD assembly alternatives; eight drawing sets; projection diagnostics; source code and numerical tests; two supplied concept boards; a separate 12-second cinematic previs. The preview film is illustrative, not a recording of installed hardware.

Proposed sequence: define grant scope and obtain placement conditions; complete the optical bench and confirm surface/lenses; commission the vehicle/support and site reviews; decide whether P1 is justified; exhibit only the approved scope; remove all hardware and waste. Occupied development is a new gate after specialist design, rescue planning and authority acceptance.

## Application preparation and resources

The [grant research library](https://thatsnozorb.muchadoaboutoneside.com/grants/)
collects official guides and eight related works, with award evidence separate
from later exhibitions. The [proposal workshop](strong-art-grant-guide.md)
contains a draft pitch, scope tiers, visual packet and budget/schedule exercises.
These recommendations do not select Andrew's scope or fill the live form.

Use the [published interaction/team/inspiration considerations](https://theloveburn.com/artistinterview) to explain the visitor experience, identify confirmed contributors and show why this work belongs at Love Burn. The concept boards are historical generated concept art, with 2026 captions; the proposed event is 2027. Do not imply the images document a completed or approved installation.

Prepare measured dimensions, footprint and height; accessible participation and viewing; power and night lighting; build and shipping schedule; installation and removal; operator coverage; Leave No Trace; and the quote-supported budget. The current live form's required fields and character limits remain unverified by Codex. Andrew's supplied research is an additional reference, not form completion.

Cash, artist tickets, power, heavy equipment, transport and labor are separate requests. No allocation is confirmed. The [heavy-equipment page](https://theloveburn.com/heavyequipment) explicitly says requests do not guarantee access. The [current DMV page](https://theloveburn.com/dmv) lists October 2026–January 11, 2027 for vehicle applications; confirm whether the support truck needs that route or stationary-art placement instead.

Before accepting an offer, obtain the current 2027 terms. The available [2026 acceptance page](https://theloveburn.com/2026acceptance) raises responsibility, insurance/permits and repayment/returned-ticket issues, but its body names the earlier event. Do not treat it as the signed agreement for this application.

The artist's operating plan must cover design, transport, installation, daily
inspection/upkeep and complete removal. Obtain the actual 2027 terms for any
repayment or ticket-return obligation. Confirm the crew's early-entry window
and truck/anchor/power permissions in the current placement instructions; the
public gate-hours page still includes a 2023 schedule. Register the art before
arrival, and do not treat general tent-stake guidance as the support design.

## Answers Andrew must supply

1. Artist/project lead identity and contact details, team members, relevant portfolio and confirmed commitments.
2. Chosen event deliverable, grant amount, matching resources and a quote-supported budget.
3. Measured footprint/height, power requirements, schedule, staffing and accessible interaction.
4. Placement preference, approved support route and dry-land fallback the artist accepts.
5. Required declarations and attestations from the actual live form; Andrew approves and submits them.
